IRA Program Welcomes Three Returning Interns

A vital aspect of BIIN, are the interns and volunteers who dedicate their time to help us fulfill our mission. Every semester IRA welcomes a set of two interns to help assist the program. Each intern contributes an array of knowledge and communication skills into the program, whilst also gaining knowledge from the unique experience. Due to the development of the IRA Program and its increasing demand, this semester the IRA program enlisted the help of 3 interns, all of which are returning interns. Below, you will read more about each of our interns and their decision to return:

“I found out about BIIN and what they do through the TAMU student organization Council for Minority Student Affairs (CMSA). I had been looking for an opportunity to help the community while also continuing to fuel my passion for Immigration Law. After serving a semester as an IRA intern, I decided to return because I saw all the good work I was able to do through the IRA Clinics and how every person that came through the door was able to get some sort of relief with whatever their case was.” – Joseline Hernandez, Sociology Major from Lufkin, Tx.

“I heard about BIIN through a Latino Immigration course I was taking last semester and immediately knew I wanted to become involved however I could. Coming from a family of immigrants, I see my own family in each person I get to meet and help. That is why I decided to come back for another semester at BIIN. My experience last semester as an ESL Intern was memorable and one of a kind and I can’t wait to continue to be of service to anyone who walks through our doors.” – Elizabeth Alvarez, Sociology Major from Huffman, Tx.

“I decided to intern at BIIN last semester because I wanted to learn about the organization and help. As an intern for the Citizenship and ESL classes, I enjoyed helping those whom we served. I decided to return for another semester as an effort to learn more about the community and help in a different manner, specifically in the IRA program.” – Gabriela Arevalo, Sociology and Spanish Major from Houston, Tx.

The IRA program is excited to welcome three returning interns, and hopes to make an even greater impact as we continue to grow and move forward.
