Immigrant Stories (video interviews)

Immigrant Video Stories:

Nereida Lopez attended college in Mexico, but was unable to find work in her field. Like many people who have come to the U.S. in search of greater opportunities, Nereida quickly realized that in order to realize her dreams she needed better skills in English. “The only way I could show what I know,” she said, “is to speak English. Regardless of your education or where you live, to get ahead in the U.S. you have to speak English.”

To learn more about how Nereida discovered BIIN and its Conversational English classes, and how this and other BIIN programs continue to make a difference in people’s lives, we invite you to watch this short video.

Special thanks to Nereida Lopez for sharing her story, and to BIIN interns Sofia Montes and Amanda Ramirez for their roles in creating this video in the spring of 2021.  BIIN staffer Janet Morford helped Sofia and Amanda plan, refine and implement their vision for this video.  All of us are grateful to BIIN volunteer Mollie Fitzpatrick for providing technical assistance at several key points in the process.

A couple that went through our classes and became citizens share their story!
