Volunteer Spotlight

Published by Program Manager on

Janet Morford moved to the BCS area in 2017 from Illinois. She learned about BIIN through St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was excited to get involved and contribute to a positive and constructive organization. She began volunteering for BIIN’s English for Parents program, classes that teach basic English skills. When the program’s lead coordinator moved, Janet stepped in to oversee the program which includes developing curriculum, managing volunteers, empowering parents, and teaching English. She is preparing her students to learn not only English but also to understand the range of activities, services, and opportunities that public schools offer. She was thrilled to learn two of her students recently applied for their children to be considered for academic enrichment programs. Janet hopes to help build a stronger more welcoming community between Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers. When she is not volunteering her time for BIIN, she enjoys cooking, reading a book or volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Thank you, Janet, for all of your time and dedication!
