Thank you and Farewell to Ana-Luisa Ortiz

A Year in Review

As Ana-Luisa Ortiz prepares to step down from her role as the director of BIIN in August, reflecting on her tenure unveils a transformative journey marked by dedication, compassion and programmatic advancements. Ortiz’s leadership has not only strengthened BIIN’s commitment to supporting immigrants in the Brazos Valley region but has also enhanced the organization’s English and Citizenship class programs, along with the IRA program.

Under Ana-Luisa Ortiz’s guidance, the English and Citizenship class programs at BIIN have flourished, becoming vital pillars of community support and empowerment. These programs have continued to meet the evolving needs of immigrants, offering more than just language skills. They have become spaces where individuals not only learn English but also gain knowledge about their rights, responsibilities and opportunities in their communities. With an emphasis on a culturally sensitive and learner-centered approach, the classroom has become an environment where immigrants feel valued and supported.

The IRA program, from the start, has represented a groundbreaking approach to advocacy within BIIN. This initiative provides personalized support to immigrants facing legal, financial, or administrative challenges. Ortiz recognized the complexities and unique circumstances of each individual’s journey and ensured that BIIN could provide targeted assistance through the IRA Program. The IRA program has evolved enough to be able to provide full-time legal assistance and advice with the help of an experienced attorney and legal assistants, a first in program history.

Looking ahead, Ana-Luisa Ortiz’s impact at BIIN will endure as a testament to her dedication and vision. Her impact on the English and citizenship class programs, as well as the IRA program, will continue to resonate within the organization and the broader community. Ortiz’s departure in August will undoubtedly mark a transition for BIIN, yet her contributions will serve as a foundation for future growth and advocacy in support of immigrants.

In conclusion, Ana-Luisa Ortiz’s role as director of Brazos Interfaith Immigration Network has been characterized by transformative leadership and profound impact. Through her stewardship, BIIN’s programs have evolved to meet the evolving needs of immigrants, and empower individuals and families to thrive in their communities.
